After months of public pressure and stalled work, the Municipal Chief Executive for Sefwi Wiawso, Hon. Dominic Gyasi, has given residents a firm update: construction on the Sefwi Wiawso Astro Turf will resume next week once funds are released.
Speaking on Unique FM 101.1 Monday morning, Hon. Gyasi said the Municipal Assembly met with project stakeholders last week to resolve the funding bottleneck. The meeting, he explained, secured a commitment that disbursements under the Secondary Cities Support Programme will start from next week onwards.
“The contractor will promptly return to site once the funds are released,” he assured listeners. “Work on the Wiawso Astro Turf will resume soon following the release of funds to the contractor.”
According to the MCE, the delay was due to outstanding payments to the contractor. He stressed that the project was never cancelled, only paused until the Secondary Cities Support Programme funds became available.
The Astro Turf has been one of the most anticipated projects in Sefwi Wiawso. Youth teams, schools, and local clubs have waited years for a modern pitch to host matches, training, and tournaments. Its completion is expected to reduce wear on natural fields and create more opportunities for talent scouting in Western North.
Hon. Gyasi acknowledged the frustration but called for continued patience: “This assurance brings renewed hope to sports enthusiasts and the wider community who have eagerly awaited progress on this important project. The expectation now is that words will swiftly translate into action.”
He ended with a direct message: “Development delayed should not become development denied. The people of Sefwi Wiawso deserve to see this project completed for the benefit of present and future generations.”

With disbursement expected “from next week onwards,” residents will now be watching for equipment and workers to return to site.
