Work on Sefwi Wiawso Astro Turf to Resume Next Week as MCE Assures Residents of Funds Release

Official News Report | Eye on Western North Digital

The long-awaited Sefwi Wiawso Astro Turf project is set to get back on track, with the Municipal Chief Executive confirming work will resume once funds are released under the Secondary Cities Support Programme.

Speaking in a one-on-one interview on Unique FM 101.1 on Monday, June 8, 2026, Hon. Dominic Gyasi, MCE for Sefwi Wiawso Municipal, addressed growing public concern over the stalled facility. He revealed that a meeting with project stakeholders was held last week, during which assurances were given that contractor payments would begin disbursing from next week onwards.

“The contractor will promptly return to site once the funds are released,” Hon. Gyasi stated. “Work on the Wiawso Astro Turf will resume soon following the release of funds to the contractor.”

The Astro Turf project, which forms part of government’s effort to expand sports infrastructure in secondary cities, has been on hold for months. The delay sparked frustration among sports enthusiasts, youth groups, and residents who see the facility as critical for talent development and community recreation.

Hon. Gyasi expressed confidence that the renewed funding commitment will translate quickly into visible progress. He urged residents to remain patient, noting that the completion of the project remains a priority for the Municipal Assembly.

The assurance has brought renewed hope to the Wiawso community, which has eagerly awaited the facility for training, local leagues, and school sports. For many, the Astro Turf represents more than just a pitch – it’s an investment in youth, health, and the future of sports in the municipality.

“Development delayed should not become development denied,” Hon. Gyasi emphasized. “The people of Sefwi Wiawso deserve to see this project completed for the benefit of present and future generations.”

The expectation now shifts to action, as residents watch for the contractor’s return and the actual resumption of construction. Kofi Benteh Media will continue to monitor and provide updates on the project’s progress.
