The Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly has cleared a new site to temporarily relocate traders from Asawinso Market, paving the way for construction to begin on the proposed 24-hour economy market project.
Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Dominic Gyasi, together with his management team, engaged market stakeholders last week to identify an alternative trading location that will minimize disruption to livelihoods during the construction phase.
The stakeholder meeting brought together market women, traders, transport operators, and other key players to deliberate on suitable sites where business activities can continue uninterrupted. Following the engagement, a site was identified and agreed upon to serve as a temporary market spaces.

Hon. Gyasi said the relocation is a necessary step toward delivering a modern, well-structured 24-hour market that will significantly boost economic activities in the municipality. He assured traders that the Assembly remains committed to supporting them during the transition and will continue engaging stakeholders to address concerns and ensure a smooth relocation process.
The new location is expected to provide a convenient and accessible environment for business operations throughout the construction period.
Stakeholders at the meeting welcomed the Assembly’s consultative approach and pledged their full support for the project, citing its long-term benefits to the municipality.

The Asawinso 24-hour market forms part of broader efforts to expand economic infrastructure in the Western North Region, where access to markets and improved trading facilities remain critical for farmers, MSMEs, and transport operators.
Construction timeline of 3yrs has been given the contractor for finishing. The Assembly has, however, urged traders to cooperate with the relocation plan to fast-track the commencement of works.
