The community of Asawinso is in mourning after 8-year-old Josephine Ayitey was found dead less than 24 hours after she went missing on Sunday, 26 April 2026.
Her father, Alfred Ayitey, said Josephine was playing with her younger sisters in front of their home when an unidentified person called her for an errand. She did not return.
Later that evening, when their mother called the children in to bathe, the sisters told her Josephine had been sent on an errand. Her body was discovered the following Monday with her neck allegedly broken.

On Tuesday, the Sefwi-Asawinso Development Association (SADA) identified the child and launched a public campaign demanding accountability. SADA described the circumstances as “unacceptable behavior” that must “cease immediately.”
“SADA remains resolute in her pursuit of justice and will not rest until it is achieved,” the association said in a statement. A campaign poster now circulating online shows the young girl alongside the scales of justice with the message: “JUSTICE FOR JOSEPHINE. WE WON’T REST UNTIL JUSTICE IS SERVED.”
The campaign, branded with SADA’s “Rising Together” motto, is built around four messages: Our Community, Our Strength; Our Voice, Our Power; Our Unity, Our Justice; and No Justice, No Peace.
The Sefwi Asawinso District Police Command had not issued a public statement at the time of publication. Eyeonwesternnorth has contacted police for comment and will update as confirmed information becomes available.
Established in 2024, SADA is a local development and advocacy group for the Sefwi-Asawinso area. The association is urging residents, civil society, and state institutions to unite behind calls for a thorough investigation.
This is a developing story. Anyone with information should report to the nearest police station.
Out of respect for the victim and to protect the investigation, some details have been withheld. Updates will follow as authorities release information.
