A devastating rainstorm has swept through Sefwi Nkwadum in the Akontombra Constituency, leaving over 350 residents, including children, homeless. The community is struggling to cope with the destruction, with many seeking shelter, food, and other essential necessities.
Nana Kofi Benchie I, the Mmeranteɛ Hene, is calling for government intervention to address the crisis, linking the disaster to the issue of galamsey (illegal mining) in the area. The Minerals Commission has been working to reclaim degraded galamsey sites, handing over 175 acres of restored land to communities in the Western North Region.

The government has been urged to declare a state of emergency to tackle the problem, with some advocating for a tougher measures against foreign environmental experts involvement in the fight against galamsey.
