The Member of Parliament for Sefwi Wiawso, Hon. Kofi Afful Bentil, has described the 2026 Budget Statement presented by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as “impressive” and “a bold step toward economic recovery and social protection.”
During a panel discussion on UTV monitored by eyeonwesternnorth after the budget presentation in Parliament yesterday, the MP said he was “extremely impressed” with the policy direction outlined by the Minister, particularly provisions aimed at farmers, small businesses, and infrastructure development.
“The Finance Minister has presented a budget that speaks directly to the needs of ordinary Ghanaians. It is a budget of hope, relief, and transformation,”_ Hon. Bentil stated.
The Sefwi Wiawso MP highlighted several areas in the budget that he believes will have direct impact on his constituents in the Western North Region.
He praised the government’s renewed commitment to agriculture, road infrastructure, and social intervention programs.
“For a farming constituency like Sefwi Wiawso, the focus on cocoa, food production, and rural roads is very encouraging. This budget shows that government is listening to the grassroots,”_ he said.
Hon. Bentil also lauded measures to stabilize the cedi, reduce inflation, and create jobs for the youth, describing them as critical to restoring confidence in the economy.
While commending the budget, the MP urged government agencies and the District Assembly to ensure effective and timely implementation of the policies to benefit citizens.
“It is one thing to present a good budget and another to execute it well. I will work with the MCE and other stakeholders to ensure that Sefwi Wiawso gets its fair share of the projects and programs announced,”_ he added.
The 2026 Budget, themed around “Resetting the Economy for Jobs and Prosperity,” has drawn mixed reactions from both sides of Parliament.
Government MPs have hailed it as pragmatic and inclusive, while the Minority has raised concerns over revenue projections and tax measures.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, in his presentation, emphasized fiscal discipline, digitization, and investment in key sectors as the foundation for sustainable growth.
Hon. Kofi Afful Bentil concluded by pledging his support for the passage of the budget, saying it aligns with the aspirations of the people of Sefwi Wiawso and Ghana at large.
