Sefwi Asawinso Queen mother Nana Ama Kyinyie Urges Contractor to Employ Local Youth, Warns Against Theft of Materials

The Queenmother of Sefwi Asawinso Traditional Area, Nana Ama Kyinyie, has called on Yakuvar Construction, the firm handling the new 24-hour market, to prioritize employment of indigenes from Asawinso and surrounding communities.

She made the appeal during the sod-cutting durbar for the construction of the Sefwi Asawinso 24-Hour Market on Wednesday, which was attended by the Sefwi Wiawso MP Hon. Aful Kofi Benteh, MCE Hon. Dominic Gyasi, chiefs, and hundreds of residents.

Addressing the gathering, Nana Ama Kyinyie said the project must translate into direct benefits for the people whose land and peace will host the facility.

“We welcome this development, but we are asking Yakuvar Construction to remember the youth of Asawinso. Many of them are skilled masons, carpenters, and laborers. Give them the opportunity to work and earn from this project,” she stated.

The Queenmother also used the occasion to caution anyone who will be employed on the site against stealing construction materials meant for the market.

“To those who will get jobs here, I am advising you: do not touch the cement, iron rods, or any materials for your personal use. That will only delay the project and deny the whole community the benefits,” Nana Ama Kyinyie warned. “Let us protect this market so it can be operationalized smoothly for traders and future generations.”

Her remarks were met with applause from market women and youth, many of whom have complained about unemployment and past projects failing due to pilfering of materials.

The 24-hour market is expected to feature lockable stores, sheds, washrooms, drainage, and street lighting to support day and night trading. Leaders at the durbar said the facility will decongest the old market and position Sefwi Asawinso as a commercial hub.

MCE Hon. Dominic Gyasi had earlier assured traders that stall allocation will be free and transparent, warning against extortion by middlemen.
