Sefwi Asawinso Deputy Chief Imam Threatens Banishment for Parents of Sons Linked to Armed Robbery

Official News Report | Eye on Western North Digital

The Deputy Chief Imam of Sefwi Asawinso, Mensallah Sabiru, has warned that Muslim parents whose sons are involved in armed robbery could face banishment from the Zongo community.

Sabiru made the remarks with Oyerepa TV correspondent Berima Kantinka, during the community’s Eid al-Adha celebration, saying the measure is aimed at “bringing sanity and protecting the image of the Islamic region.”

He also stated that it had been noticed that in most robbery cases, 7 out of 10 of those arrested bear Muslim names, which he said is tarnishing the image of Islam and needs to be dealt with.

The Zongo community in Sefwi Asawinso, located in Western North Region, is predominantly Muslim. Eid al-Adha is observed with communal prayers and gatherings, and religious leaders often use the occasion to address social issues affecting the community.

Sabiru urged parents to take greater responsibility for monitoring and guiding their children to prevent criminal activity.

The statement comes amid ongoing public discussions in Ghana about youth involvement in crime and the role of community and religious leaders in addressing it.
