The Western North Regional Department of Gender has marked International Women’s Day with a one-day dialogue in Sefwi Wiawso, bringing together women across the region under the global theme “Rights, Justice, Action For All Women and Girls.”
The annual commemoration seeks to highlight the importance of women in society and advance conversations around their rights, opportunities, and protection.

Addressing participants, Western North Regional Minister Wilbert Petty Bentum said government is taking decisive steps to remove barriers that prevent women from seeking legal redress for violence. He reaffirmed government’s commitment under the reset agenda to ensure a justice system that is fair and inclusive. Mr. Bentum also outlined ongoing efforts to improve healthcare delivery for women in the region.

Speaking at the sidelines, Regional Head of the Department of Gender, Yaa Dufa Asare Bediako, called on stakeholders to support the gender advocacy agenda to achieve equality and empowerment. She urged women facing abuse or discrimination to report their cases to DOVSU, CHRAJ, and other relevant authorities for redress.
Several participants shared personal experiences from the dialogue, noting that the engagement deepened their understanding of their rights and the avenues available for support.
The department said it will continue to collaborate with partners to sustain public education and advocacy on gender issues across the region.
