A 9-year-old girl, Diana Boakye, is receiving treatment at the Kofikrom SDA Hospital in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region after her mother, Vivian Anto, allegedly severed her right index toe with a pair of scissors as punishment for returning home late.

The incident occurred on April 3, 2026, at around 9:30 a.m. at Sefwi Proso, where the suspect and the victim reside.

The police officers who visited the hospital observed the young girl with a fresh bandage on her right foot, and a preliminary examination confirmed that her right index toe had been severed with a sharp object.

The 31-year-old mother, Vivian Anto, is currently in police custody assisting with investigations into the incident. The severed toe has been retrieved, photographed, and preserved as evidence. The victim is reported to be responding well to treatment at the hospital.

The police say investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be communicated as the case progresses. The suspect is expected to be arraigned before court after the Easter break when sittings resume.
