The Divisional Chief of Bakanta, Nana Aka Nwonzah III, has expressed concern over Ghana’s expenditure of over $57 million on tyre importation, despite being a significant rubber producer.
In an exclusive interview, Nana Aka Nwonzah III emphasised that exporting raw rubber and importing tyres is a paradox that hurts Ghana’s economy. “We need to add value to our raw materials, create employment, and reduce unemployment,” he stressed.
The Chief urged the government to review raw rubber export policies and prioritise local processing to boost the economy and create jobs.

Nana Aka Nwonzah III added that initiatives to establish companies and drive development should be a collective effort, not politicised. “As stakeholders, we welcome initiatives that uplift the country,” he said.
